What will get for an encore?
Tiger Woods produced an electric Friday at the Hero World Challenge with a 4-under 68 that put him contention. At times during the second round, he held the outright lead. Woods will look for more glory in his return Saturday at Albany Golf Club.
Our Tiger Tracker will keep track of his entire third round shot-by-shot. Keep up with everything below.
Hole No. 13: Par 4, 483 Yards
OFF THE TEE (3:28 p.m. ET): Tiger seemed to like this drive, but it ended up a little left. Not totally clear if he’s in the rough or sand waste area, but he’s certainly not in the fairway.
APPROACH SHOT (3:32 p.m. ET): He finished in the waste area and Tiger knocks a fine wedge from 107 yards to about 12 feet. A good look for his first birdie of the day.
ON THE GREEN (3:35 p.m. ET): And … NOPE. Tiger misses left and he’ll settle for par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 over thru 13 (T-12)
Hole No. 12: Par 3, 202 Yards
OFF THE TEE (3:19 p.m. ET): This was a good, solid shot. The ball ends up some 30 feet short and right of the hole on the front part of the green. Nothing bad there.
ON THE GREEN (3:24 p.m. ET): That was actually maybe more like 40 feet, and Tiger almost holed it. But the ball wiggles right at the end and goes just past the right side of the cup. He does clean up the remainder for par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 over thru 12 (T-12)
Hole No. 11: Par 5, 589 Yards
OFF THE TEE (3:02 p.m. ET): This round might get really bad. Tiger goes right off the tee here and that one might be in the bushes. If that’s the case, he may have to take an unplayable. At best, he can probably only advance like 50 yards if he gets lucky and has playable lie.
SECOND SHOT (3:05 p.m. ET): The ball is found. Tiger simply chops back into the fairway. He’ll have a long third shot.
THIRD SHOT (3:08 p.m. ET): From around 250 yards, Tiger goes with 4-iron and he fails to reach the green. But it was smart to miss in front. With the pin back and Tiger in that front fairway, this isn’t a tough up and down.
AROUND THE GREEN (3:14 p.m. ET): Tiger putts from in front and comes up about 8 feet short. That is left for par.
ON THE GREEN (3:16 p.m. ET): That was nice. He drizzled that into the cup for a nice par save. Tiger really could be worse than +5 today. The single positive we can take from this day is Tiger has not lost his ability to grind.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 over thru 11 (T-12)
Hole No. 10: Par 4, 435 Yards
OFF THE TEE (2:49 p.m. ET): Tiger goes with what looks like 3-wood off the tee and he finds the fairway. He’s off to a good start on this nine.
APPROACH SHOT (2:52 p.m. ET): He takes 7-iron from 166 yards and it looks like that one landed in the left greenside bunker. If that’s the case, Tiger short sides himself there.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:57 p.m. ET): Tiger actually came up short of the bunker. He had to play a mini-flop shortsided from the rough. It was an uphill lie, so not an impossible shot. Tiger knocks it 10 feet by. That’s left for par.
ON THE GREEN (2:58 p.m. ET): He simply misread that one. The ball slides off to the right at the end and that’s another bogey.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 over thru 10 (T-12)
Hole No. 9: Par 5, 603 Yards
OFF THE TEE (2:37 p.m. ET): Tiger does find the fairway here. Remember he made eagle at this hole after doing that yesterday.
APPROACH SHOT (2:40 p.m. ET): From 284 yards … not his best. But it’s a fine miss into the front right greenside bunker. He can get that up and down for birdie.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:41 p.m. ET): And that’s another short-game shot that doesn’t even find the green. Tiger carries this bunker shot 10 feet beyond the pin and it rolls off the back. He’ll have about 30 feet from the fairway for birdie.
ON THE GREEN (2:45 p.m. ET): Tiger cleans up for par, but he goes out in 40 and he’s 10 back.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 over thru 9 (12th)
Hole No. 8: Par 3, 203 Yards
OFF THE TEE (2:22 p.m. ET): It. Keeps. Piling. On. This one looked good in the area, but it comes up short and trickles into low area left of the green. The pin is left, so he is short-sided. Another bogey might be imminent.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:26 p.m. ET): That’s another chip that come up short OF THE GREEN. Everything is falling apart. Ball is actually lucky to not come back to his feet, as it does climb the rise and stay there. Still, he’s going to have 15 feet for par at least from the fringe.
ON THE GREEN (2:30 p.m. ET): Well, Tiger actually made that putt for par!!! It may prove insignificant, but it’s possible this is a turning point.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 over thru 8 (T-12)
Hole No. 7: Par 4, 344 Yards
OFF THE TEE (2:10 p.m. ET): Tiger goes with driver on this one and he misses right (as he has most of the day). But it’s in the rough and he’ll have an eagle pitch. A birdie is still within reach, and he desperately needs one right now.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:15 p.m. ET): Tiger simply had nothing there, as it turns out. The ball was sitting down and the green runs away. If he landed this on the green, it might’ve gone over. Predictably, he comes up short. His second pitch is actually even worse. Pretty straightforward and it comes up 15 feet short. He’ll have that putt FOR PAR.
ON THE GREEN (2:17 p.m. ET): Tiger’s par effort … nope, too much speed and it goes by on the left. He actually has 3 feet left for bogey, but he does make it. Still, another dropped shot.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 over thru 7 (T-12)
Hole No. 6: Par 5, 595 Yards
OFF THE TEE (1:55 p.m. ET): The driver has just not been as good today. Tiger misses this one in the waste sand right. He has a good lie and that’s the correct miss. But we’re guessing he’ll lay up from there.
SECOND SHOT (1:57 p.m. ET): Indeed, he lays up. Tiger actually does so in the short rough, so that wasn’t ideal.
THIRD SHOT (2:01 p.m. ET): Oh my, Tiger is so off. He had 113 yards in, and he goes 30 yards long on that one. He’s going to need a heck of an up and down just to save par.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:04 p.m. ET): That was a tough shot and Tiger actually knocks this one over the green. He’ll have 25 feet from the fringe for par.
ON THE GREEN (1:50 p.m. ET): Nope. Tiger runs that one 4 feet by. He makes the comebacker, but that’s another bogey.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 over thru 6 (T-11)
Hole No. 5: Par 3, 180 Yards
OFF THE TEE (1:45 p.m. ET): The struggles continue. Tiger hates this one and with good reason. It flails right and he’s in the greenside bunker. He’ll have some work to do to not drop another shot.
AROUND THE GREEN (1:48 p.m. ET): That was pretty nice. This was a long one back into the wind, and Tiger flies it about 8 feet short of the hole and it trickles to about 5 feet. That left for par.
ON THE GREEN (1:50 p.m. ET): He buries that one. This is a good sign. Tiger is struggling, but he is fighting.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 over thru 5 (11th)
Hole No. 4: Par 4, 489 Yards
OFF THE TEE (1:33 p.m. ET): It took awhile, but we can say this one is all good. It was right on the edge, but the ball bounces through the rough and catches the right edge of the fairway.
APPROACH SHOT (1:37 p.m. ET): It’s windier out here today and something is just off with Tiger right now. He takes 9-iron from 139 yards and makes good contact, but that was the wrong club. Pin is front left and the ball LANDS some 50 beyond the hole. It reaches back-center edge and he’ll have 60 feet for birdie.
ON THE GREEN (1:39 p.m. ET): A terrific lag putt. A left-to-righter with perfect speed that was a tad too far left and broke right past the hole. He gets that within 6 inches and taps in for par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 over thru 4 (11th)
Hole No. 3: Par 5, 572 Yards
OFF THE TEE (1:16 p.m. ET): Boom. Tiger takes a mighty hack at that one and it is perfectly in the fairway. That has to be 300+ and he can go for this in two.
APPROACH SHOT (1:20 p.m. ET): Tiger nuked that one, but it was too hard. From 261 yards out, he takes a fairway wood and airmails the green. He misses long and on the left side, with the pin on the back right. He will have a little green to work with but not a ton.
AROUND THE GREEN (1:25 p.m. ET): Oh no. Those chipping woes may be back. Tiger was in the fairway, but there was rough right behind his ball and he stubs this one short of the green. Not good. His second chip is a lot more straightforward and he cozies that one to about 3 feet.
ON THE GREEN (1:29 p.m. ET): And Tiger misses! That one didn’t even hit the hole, it misses right and goes two feet by. He cleans up for bogey, but this is a horrid start. Remember, he bogeyed after a perfect drive, too.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 over thru 3 (T-12)
Hole No. 2: Par 3, 187 Yards
OFF THE TEE (1:08 p.m. ET): A solid comeback from Tiger. He knocks this one safely right, about 18 feet from the flag. That’ll be a solid birdie look. The last thing he needed was another bogey, so this was a good rebound shot.
ON THE GREEN (1:12 p.m. ET): Good effort. Tiger takes a good run at the putt, but it just slides by on the left. Great speed, though, and it was inches from dropping. A nice easy par to calm the nerves.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 over thru 2 (T-10)
HOLE No. 1: Par 4, 423 Yards
OFF THE TEE (12:55 p.m. ET): Not his best. That was a dead pull. It appears he ended up in the waste area sand left. We’ll find out soon. It’s definitely not in the fairway.
APPROACH SHOT (12:59 p.m. ET): He actually came away with an OK lie. As it turned out there was a rock underneath but Tiger does get out just fine. His ball ends up short of the green. He’ll need to scramble, but an up and down here doesn’t appear too difficult.
AROUND THE GREEN (1:02 p.m. ET): Not his best. These greens are fast and Tiger’s chip runs some 10 feet past the cup. He has that left for par.
ON THE GREEN (1:05 p.m. ET): Yikes. Tiger ran his first putt 4 feet by. He does make the comebacker, but he had to work just to open with bogey. Rough start.
Tiger is on the premises. Let’s get ready!
